However, the big moment of the game was in the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Kyle Seager hit a sharp line drive back up the middle, that hit the Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker on the side of the head. There was a lengthy delay as the training staff attended to the stricken pitcher, with the Angels players kneeling around the mound in a circle, with Seager himself joining them. Eventually, he was able to walk off the field, supported by the training staff, to a lengthy standing ovation from the crowd. Reports afterwards indicate that fortunately, it looks like he has "only" suffered a small skull fracture. He's being kept in a local hospital overnight and is seeing a brain specialist.
Every day seems to be a special day. Friday was "Girl's Night" and Saturday was "Boy's Night".
Most of the rest of the game was unremarkable. The Angels scored a run in the 6th, the Mariners replied with a run in their half of the 6th, and the two teams swapped runs in the 8th too, and it finished 4-2.
After seeing no home runs at all in New York (I missed the middle game when there was one), the ball has been flying out of Safeco Field all series, with the Angels hitting 9 of them (Pujols 3; Trout 2; Calhoun 2; Cron 1; Marte 1)
I was sad to miss the Mariners' star pitcher "King" Felix Hernandez. He's pitching in tomorrow's game against Texas, whereas I'll be en route to Denver, where I'll see two games between the Giants and the Rockies.
